2013 Gardener’s Gathering

Saturday, August 17th from 9:00am-4:00pm the Acadia Farm is hosting a series of workshops(FREE!). If interested please RSVP lindsay@acadiafarm.org, as numers are limited. Below is the itinerary for the day.

9:00am-10:00am Reg Newell is with the Department of Natural Resources and will be presenting on farms and biodiversity
10:00am-10:15am Loay Jabre, a masters student at Acadia will present on pest management and recent findings from his research
10:15am-12:00pm Paul Arnold will explain the importance of composting, how to compost effectively, discuss various designs, and we will be building a compost for the Acadia Community Farm
12:00pm-1:00pm Lunch at the Wolfville Farmer’s Market
1:00pm-2: 30pm Amanda Dainow, clinical herbalist, will present on medicinal herbs and the different ways they can be used to heal

2:30pm-4:00pm Leisel Carlsson, instructor, nutrition and dietetics/community member, will present on seed saving and different ways to save seeds from your plants for the following season

Acadia Community Farm Invites You!

The Acadia Community Farm is hosting on a series of workshops, free of charge, around the topic of gardening. Attending the workshop is a great opportunity to learn more about organic gardening, composting, growing herbs, farms and biodiversity and pest management.

Plot Holder Meet and Greet

Hello all!

On Thursday, May 23rd at 7pm we will be meeting at the farm for our first plot holders meeting of the season. During the meeting we will be discussing our health and safety policy, plans for the farm, volunteer schedule, workshops as well as feedback from previous plot holders. For anyone who is curious about the farm and is interested in attending, you are more than welcome to join.

Summer Preserves Workshop August 23

Summer preserves is the topic of the third event in the 2012 workshop series. In this introductory workshop you will learn to make preserves featuring vegetables grown here in the Annapolis Valley. Recipes include sauerkraut, brined broccoli, and Japanese Nukka mixed vegetables. Participants will take home three jars of preserves and a copy of each recipe.

Location: Huggings Science Hall, Room 418, Acadia University

2011Workshop Series – not to be missed!

We have a very exciting line-up for you this season. These are for new and established gardeners alike. The workshops will be be engaging, fun and open to all! This is also a great time to meet your fellow gardeners both at the farm and within the community. Looking forward to seeing you there.

The Acadia Community Farm began in the spring of 2008 with the vision of providing local, organic produce to the dining hall at Acadia University, while also serving as a community garden. The Farm has grown to become an educational community centre for the exchange of knowledge surrounding gardening, food, and sustainable agriculture.
